In an effort to enhance the performance and increase site stability, Interstate Batteries engaged MethodFactory to conduct a technical review of their Commerce Server infrastructure.  Based on years of experience in optimizing Microsoft Commerce Server, Ascentium, Commerce Server .NET, and Sitecore Commerce (SCpbCS) solutions, Interstate Batteries selected MethodFactory to help improve site performance and the shopping experience for visitors to the Interstate Batteries eCommerce website.

Business Challenge

Interstate Batteries’ competes in an extremely competitive marketplace and to continue their online success – needed to make sure that site visitors got the experience their customers have come to expect.  Website traffic had increase dramatically due to the success of their online marketing activities, and they wanted to make sure that the increase in traffic was not adversely impacting user experience.  Interstate Batteries’ eCommerce staff measured various user scenarios and determined that there was opportunity to improve site performance.   Due to an increasing workload on internal resources, and limited experience with Microsoft Commerce Server performance tuning, Interstate Batteries sought a partner with an in-depth understanding of .NET eCommerce system architecture and performance optimization.


MethodFactory started with the user scenarios that Interstate Batteries identified as slow performing.  After a detailed audit of the page elements in the problem scenarios, MethodFactory programmatically measured the page load times – parsed by component (and 3rd party systems invoked by those components), and prioritized the optimization activities.  The result was a combination of adjustments made to server infrastructure (RAM/CPU), load balancers, code changes, and image caching which resulted in a dramatic reduction in page load times and a far better user experience.
